Verdict
Connect Four and Stratego sit on opposite sides of the information divide. Connect Four shows you everything; Stratego hides every enemy piece until a square is contested. That single difference produces totally different mental experiences. Stratego rewards bluffers — putting your Flag in the front row to scare the opponent, sacrificing a Captain to bait their Marshal — while Connect Four rewards pure calculators who can see four moves ahead. If you love poker and the psychology of opponent-modeling, Stratego is a richer playground. If you love chess problems and tactics puzzles where the board never lies, Connect Four is your game. Stratego also asks for a much bigger time commitment (45-90 minute games are normal). Connect Four is something you can knock out three times before dinner. Both have active competitive scenes; Connect Four's is bigger online, Stratego's is more developed in physical tournaments, especially in the Netherlands and Belgium.
